Bunnings – $??.?? a bag
Some FaceBook members have said that their local Bunnings stocks pellets at prices from as low as $15.00. Unfortunately, this appears to be something that varies from store to store and state to state. Online the price shows pellets at $14.15 a bag but there appears to be no way to find stores online easily that stock pellets at this price. I recommend you visit your local Bunnings and see if they have pellets at reasonable prices.
Summary of Where to Buy Wood Pellets in Australia
If you don’t like the idea of buying a whole pallet in one go, consider splitting it with a friend (there are usually 66 bags per pallet). Freight probably won’t be cheap on a pallet but at least you’ll get the pellets at a much better price than you can locally. You’ll see below that some retailers sell pellets for almost $33 a bag. Others sell for about $14 a bag and even if freight was $8 a bag you are still saving money. That’s why it pays to shop around because you could end up saving hundreds of dollars a year buying pellets by the pallet or from a cheaper retailer.
If you are also looking to buy a pellet heater, you might find that retailers sell softwood and hardwood pellets, but I’d focus on finding a retailer with the best price first and make sure you check wood pellet length before buying as this can affect how well your heater runs. If you know of any other places to buy wood pellets in Australia, please let me know. The majority of this list is dominated by New South Wales and Victoria, as pellet heaters are much more popular there than many other states. But if you know of any other pellet retailers that sell pellets at a good price please leave a comment below with their details.
Also, if you haven’t already it may be worth checking out what I think the best pellet heaters are in Australia or the top pellet heaters in Tasmania. There are some very nice models both on the mainland and in Tasmania and I think you’ll find those posts worth a read. Happy heating!
